Job Fair Opens Paths to New Careers

Despite rain, crowds come out for annual Job Fair

Outside, the weather was wet and dreary — but inside Northway Mall on September 20, hopes were high and energy was up for more than 450 job seekers who attended the bi-annual CITC Job Fair.

Sponsored this fall by First National Bank Alaska, CITC’s Job Fair attracts local and national businesses offering full- and part-time opportunities to Anchorage’s job-seekers. The fair is held twice a year, in March and September, and continues to grow in the number of vendors and the number of attendees. In 2018, Northway Mall became the new home of the Job Fair when it outgrew CITC’s facilities.

This year, more than 70 employers attended the fair, including long-time CITC partners like Anchorage School District, Carlile Transportation, Lowes Home Improvement, and Southcentral Foundation.

For many CITC participants, the Job Fair is one more step along the path toward establishing a career. A dozen CITC job-seekers already established with CITC job coaches or case managers attended a three-day workshop prior to the Job Fair. Workshop attendees explored potential careers, built and polished their portfolios, and learned about professionalism in the workplace. Learn more about the workshop here.

Another Job Fair will be held in March 2020; follow CITC on Facebook to stay updated on this and other events. Or visit CITC’s Employment Services and Training webpage to explore how we can help you on your path to a new career.
